Valentines Day is just a few weeks away, and that means its time for the annual Sweethearts Ball.
It will be a fun-filled evening of dinner, sock-hopping and live music at the Cortez Elks Lodge, on Saturday Feb. 4. Doors open at 5 p.m., with a steak or salmon dinner at 6. Entertainment begins at 7 p.m. as does the silent auction, followed by the sock-hopping fun.
Tickets are $40 per person with all proceeds going to the Cortez Cultural Center,
This years event, put on by Cortez Cultural Center, will have a 1950s sock-hop theme, complete with performances by timeless favorites of that era, like Wolfman Jack, Patsy Cline, the Shangri-las, and of course the king himself, Elvis Presley.
Mitchell Toms, Cultural Center board member and volunteer, said the event is for singles just as much as for couples.
You can reserve a table of 10 with your friends. The live show is a new edition this year, so if you dont want to dance, then you still can enjoy the entertainment, Toms said.
There will also be a live auction and a silent auction. Ticket sales and auction proceeds will benefit the Cortez Cultural Center.
The centers mission is to promote art, culture, education and science for all of the community. Toms said that the center hosts Native American dances through out the summer months, as well as maintains Hawkins Preserve and Nature Center on the south side of Cortez. The center also displays student artwork from area public schools.
