Former Montezuma-Cortez volleyball star Casey Bauer is making an name for herself in Scandinavia.
The outside hitter helped lead Copenhagen, Denmarks, Brondby Volleyball Club to the Danish Cup title on Jan. 22. Brondby beat rival Holte, 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10), which was the team Bauer played on for in the 20072008 season. For her efforts, Bauer was named the Danish Cup Trophy Fighter (MVP).
Brondby, a professional volleyball team, advanced to the Nordic Club Cup Championships in Norway. The four-team tournament features Brondby, Holte, and top Norwegian clubs, Oslo and Stood.
Bauer and Brondby will spike into action today and tomorrow at 5:30 and 4 a.m. mountain time. Matches can watched live on www.kanalsport.dk and www.vimeo.com.
Bauer is a 2002 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School and earned a full-ride volleyball scholarship to Colorado State University, where she graduated in 2006. Bauer was named All-Mountain West Conference and MWC Player of the Week as a senior.
Bauer remains the Colorado state high school record holder with kills in a match (43), kills in a season (517) and third in kills all-time (1,017), according to www.chsaa.org. Bauer was named the Colorado 4A Player of the Year in 2002, helping the Lady Panthers to the 4A state semifinals. She just concluded her first season as the M-CHS varsity assistant volleyball coach.
