Care to raise a glass of wine in celebration of our culture?
Wine tasting classes will begin the third Thursday of each month for the next three months beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Cortez Cultural Center.
The series will be led by Eric Allen, owner of The Wine Merchant in Durango. We are going to explore Old World wine versus New World styles, Allen said.
While there are always exceptions, New World wines from Australia and the Americas generally have more forward flavor, higher alcohol content and lower acidity, Allen said.
Old World styles from Europe tend to have more earthiness, complexity, subtlety and tend to have slightly lower alcohol content and higher acidity, Allen said.
The experience is very different. The way they feel, and the way they taste in your mouth is totally different, Allen said. And Ill make sure that the wines illustrate those points.
Attendants will learn and be able to talk about their experiences after tasting five kinds of wines.
Anyone of age can buy a ticket. The class is limited to 25 people, according to Allen. Tickets cost $20.
