Cortez Rec. Center coed volleyball
The city of Cortez is accepting registrations for the 2012 coed volleyball season. Guaranteed eight-game season, plus a double-elimination tournament, and T-shirts to tournament winners. Entry fee is $175. Registration ends Monday, Jan. 9. Season begins Monday, Jan. 16. Call the Cortez Recreation Center at 564-4080 with any questions.
Cortez Youth Volleyball
There will be a parent informational meeting and sign up for Cortez Youth Volleyball on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cortez Middle School Main Gym. League play begins Thursday, Jan. 12. The program is for girls and boys, fourth through eighth grade, who want to learn and improve their volleyball skills, and have fun doing it! Practice times: fourth-sixth grade Tuesday, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Seventh-eighth grade Thursday, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $60 per player with multi-child family discounts available. Cortez Rec. Center youth basketball
The city of Cortez Parks and Recreation department is now taking registrations for fifth and sixth grade girls and boys youth basketball. Season begins Monday, Jan. 30, and continues until Sunday, Feb. 26. Cost to participate is $20, which includes a T-shirt jersey. Registrations are being taken at the Cortez Recreation Center and will close Monday, Jan. 23. Any questions, contact Joye McHenry at 564-4080.
Mark Ecker II Memorial Hunt function
On Friday, Jan. 13, the soldiers for the fifth annual Mark Ecker II Memorial Hunt for Heroes will arrive at the Colorado Hunting Expeditions lodge near Dolores. There will be a special function held at Kokos conference center, located at 2121 East Main Street, on Saturday, Jan 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is open to the public to meet the veterans and soldiers, who will be recognized. Trout Unlimited meeting, fly tying class
The Dolores River Anglers, a chapter of Trout Unlimited, will have their general meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Cortez Elks Lodge. There will be a 6:30 p.m. meet and greet with the general session at 7 p.m.
Fly tying classes starting Monday, Jan. 16. The fee will be $5 (includes all five classes) for materials and we will be tying 2-3 flies a class. Equipment will be provided, but if you have your own equipment, bring it. The first meeting will be held at the Cortez Cultural Center (go to the back of the building and go upstairs, classroom on the left). This class is open to anyone from age 11 and up, and to TU members and the public. The class goes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (bring your own drinks and snacks).
