Montezuma County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on June 19, at 1:30 p.m. in the commissioners’ hearing room for the purpose of reviewing County Road X access to McPhee Reservoir and the Sage Hen area of the San Juan National Forest.
In May, at the request of the Bureau of Reclamation and the Dolores Water Conservancy District, the county issued an emergency closure of Road X to prevent motorized boats from entering the lake without being inspected for the invasive mussel.
County and federal agencies are seeking to control boat access to McPhee to prevent a quagga mussel contamination, which causes damage to irrigation infrastructure. How to provide access for recreation on Sage Hen public lands while also protecting the lake form unauthorized boat launches will be discussed.
