M-CHS will perform annual Winter Concert
The Montezuma-Cortez High School will perform their annual Winter Concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the high school auditorium,
The performance will feature the choir and band groups from M-CHS, and there will be a silent auction of gift baskets that are made by the band students and parents. We will also hold the raffle drawing for an iPad 2.

Mancos Public Library will offer Facebook 101 class
The Mancos Public Library will offer a free Facebook 101 class at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, in the library Community Meeting Room, 211 W. First St., Mancos.
In this beginner class, we will cover most aspects of Facebook that you are likely to face each time you log in. The goal of this class is to help participants become familiar with the Facebook website and what you can do on this social networking site. Specific topics will include navigation, including status updates, comments, and posting photos, profile/timeline, privacy settings, applications, and netiquette. We will have computers available for your use in the class. If you would like, please feel free to bring your own laptop.

M-CHS Honor Society seeks donations of winter wear for needy
The Montezuma-Cortez High School National Honor Society is hosting the annual NHS Coat Drive from now until Wednesday, Dec. 21. Those who would like to donate can drop off winter wear that is in good condition (coats, boots, scarves, gloves, hats, etc.) to the M-CHS library (Room 200) during school hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. The schools address is 206 West 7th St., Cortez.
All of the donated items will be donated to local people in need at the Renew Shelter for Battered Women.

Raffle will benefit Cortez Recreation Center scholarship fund
Each year Friends of Recreation for a Healthy Community has a raffle to raise funds for future scholarships. Raffle tickets are on sale at the Cortez Recreation Center from now until Thursday, Dec. 22. The drawing will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 22, at the Cortez Recreation Center.
The raffle tickets are available at three tickets for $10 or one ticket for $4. The first-place prize in the raffle is an annual family pass to the Cortez Recreation Center a four-member family pass is valued at $385. FOR has given more than $20,000 in scholarships for use of the Cortez Recreation Center since the center opened in 2004. Scholarships are available for persons who are disabled, elderly, and are financially qualified. The financial qualifiers are the same as used by federal programs such as HUD. One does not need to be present at the drawing to win.

Animal shelter will begin new 10 Strays of Christmas dog walk
The Cortez Animal Shelter will hold the 10 Strays of Christmas from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day until Thursday, Dec. 22. Adoptable dogs are sponsored by a local business, wear a special vest adorned with that days sponsor name or logo, and are walked around downtown during the lunch hour in hopes of being adopted.
The program will raise awareness about homeless pets in the community, and the animal shelters drive to find these lonely critters good homes for the holidays. This is visibility for any type of business that can sponsor an animal, and a way to help a shelter dog. Suggested sponsorship is $25 per ad, per day. Sponsorship includes advertisement on the dog as it is walked, and the ad getting placed on the animals cage at the shelter.
