The Montezuma-Cortez High School wrestling team competed against five other schools last Saturday at the Bayfield Wolverine Tournament.
Junior Ryan Daves (132 pounds) and freshman Segar Oliver (145) each posted 5-0 records on the day to both improve to 7-0 on the young season. The Panthers posted a 2-3 mark in duals and are 3-4 overall.
Oliver won all his matches by pin, while Daves scored four pins and a 15-0 victory by technical fall over Dave Murdock of Pagosa springs.
M-CHS won team duals with Ignacio, 36-34, and Pagosa Springs, 35-30. The Panthers lost to Dolores, 42-30, Dove Creek, 62-12, and tournament champion Piedra Vista (Farmington, N.M.), 55-18.
Senior Trenton Gustafson went 4-1 at 182 pounds with the lone blemish against Dove Creeks Chance Johnson by technical fall. Levi Gross recorded a 3-2 mark at 113 pounds with two pins. Justice Ramos (126) and Cole Jeter (195) won two matches by forfeit, and Shelton Little won his 138-pound match by forfeit against Ignacio.
The Panthers will wrestle in Delta on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. M-CHS will dual with Delta Friday, then participate in the Delta High School tournament on Saturday.
NOTES: Tuesdays home dual with Pagosa Springs was postponed. A new time and date have yet to be determined.
