The Montezuma Water Co. is working with the town of Dolores to create an encroachment permit for the company’s building at 209 Central Ave. The building is partly within the town’s Third Street right of way. The water company recently moved out of the building to a new location off Colorado Highway 145. They had a contract to sell their old Dolores building, but the buyer backed out after discovering it was partly on town property and a permit was required.
To accommodate properties that jut out past the property line, the town issues encroachment permits. The permits allow the structure to remain, are automatically renewed year-to-year, and transfer to new owners if the property sells. But if the building burns down, or is scrapped for a new one, the actual property line must be adhered to.
