With its regular season winding down, the Dolores High School track team travelled to the Terry Alley Invitational in Pagosa Springs on May 6 and saw its athletes produce season best results.
Leading the way for the boys’ team were Tristan Medina and Phillip Huffman, who finished 1st in the 300-meter hurdles (42.92) and 3200-meter run (11:40.54) respectively. Medina also finished 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles (16.86) and Huffman finished 4th in the 1600-meter run (5:02.13).
Also cracking the top ten for the Bears was Tristan Holgate, who placed 10th in the long jump (15 feet, 2 inches).
On the girls’ side, Dolores was led by Josie Bernholtz, who placed 1st in the 400-meter run (1:03.95). Jordan Elder placed 2nd in the 400-meter run (1:06.34) and Dannika Noyes placed 5th in the same event (1:13.26).
Other team members breaking into the top ten included Sierra Schwartz, who finished 6th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.80) and 300-meter hurdles (56.54), and Brenn Jeter, who placed 7th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.88).
As a team, the Dolores boys finished 10th out of 13 teams and the girls placed 6th out of 13 teams. Monte Vista finished first in the boys’ standings while Pagosa Springs won the girls’ portion of the meet.
Next up for the Dolores will be the Tiger Invitational, which will take place at Ralph Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction, May 11-12.
