2:25 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 100 block of South Beech Street on suspicion of failing to stop at a stop sign, DUI and DUI per se.
4:58 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in Centennial Park, 802 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of an open container violation and possession of alcohol in the park.
5:26 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of South Market Street on a warrant after his former employer at Smoke-N-Stuff in Cortez reported she believed he had stolen about $30,000 from the store by issuing unauthorized discounts to customers, and that he had also taken merchandise. Since the man had not filled out employee paperwork and the store manager could not produce any inventory or other evidence to show items missing from the store, police decided not to investigate him for theft.
Sunday, April 16
3 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 1600 block of North Dolores Road on suspicion of DUI, failure to present proof of insurance, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident without providing required information, underage consumption of ethyl alcohol and underage possession of marijuana. Responding officers believed he had caused a no-injuries traffic accident in the area. About a gram of marijuana in a package with a label from The Medicine Man was found in the man’s vehicle.
10:55 a.m.: A man was arrested at American Holiday Inn, 640 S. Broadway, on a warrant for assault after a woman told police she believed he had abused her daughter, with whom he was living.
5:12 p.m.: A woman was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Maverick Country Store, 455 N. State St., and trespassing in the 2500 block of Trinity Avenue. A man reported she had entered his home, saying she thought it was abandoned, and had eaten some of his food before leaving when he confronted her. Responding officers said the woman told them she could read the man’s thoughts and that he wanted her to stay. About an hour later a Maverick employee said the same woman had stolen two bags of gummy worms and a bag of beef jerky, valued at $8.37 total, waved them in the air and told employees to “call the cops.”
Monday, April 17
10:40 a.m.: A man was served with two warrants for failure to appear at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
3:02 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 22000 block of East Main Street on two warrants for failure to appear.
3:57 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 600 block of South Chestnut Street on a warrant for failure to appear.
4:22 p.m.: A man was arrested at Dolores State Bank, 744 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear and on suspicion of disturbing the peace after an officer reported he had defecated in the bushes outside the bank.
9:17 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
10:53 p.m.: A woman was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order.
Tuesday, April 18
7:51 a.m.: Police responded to a report of damaged property at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road. The outside of a large double-paned window had been broken. The case remains under investigation.
11:34 a.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
12:53 p.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of trespassing and violating bond conditions.
1:33 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear after hospital staff reported she may have been hit by a car. The woman said her sister had accidentally run over her foot, but she did not want to press charges. After being cleared by the hospital, she was transported to jail in a wheelchair.
2:08 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1300 block of East Main Street on two warrants for failure to appear.
3:18 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Montezuma County District Court, 109 W. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
5:08 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County District Court, 109 W. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
5:19 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 800 block of South Broadway on a warrant for failure to appear.
9:09 p.m.: A man was arrested outside Dolores State Bank, 744 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order. The responding officer said he tried to resist arrest, which led the officer to push him against the patrol car, striking his nose on the side and causing it to bleed. The officer also said the man kept threatening to kill him and his family throughout the ride to the jail.
