The Montezuma-Cortez High School softball team completed a successful four game, 4A Western Slope League road trip last Friday and Saturday at Eagle Valley and Palisade.
The Lady Panthers demolished Eagle Valley in Gypsum, winning the doubleheader, 26-5 and 24-1 each in five innings. At Palisade, M-CHS (4-5) dropped the first game 12-5, but regrouped to win the thrilling second game, 12-11.
We hit the ball extremely well and really executed, Lady Panthers coach Heath Elliot said. A lot of mistakes we made were mental errors, but we have really fixed that. We were pretty pleased with the results.
Senior shortstop Zoey Young hit two home runs on the trip. Junior catcher Randy Elliot picked off nine runners in the four games.
M-CHS will be at rival Durango (7-0) to begin 4A Southwestern League play on Friday at 5 p.m.
