Engines will , and checkered flags will fly at Fairgrounds Speedway this weekend during an event that has been deemed Rumble in the Rockies.
According to the Fairgrounds Speedway Facebook page, races will take place at the Cortez track on April 21-22. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and races will begin at dusk.
Among the auto classes featured will be hobby stocks, stock cars, sport mods and modifieds. Each race will be sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) and as a result, drivers will earn points in the IMCA season series.
Cash prizes will also be available for winning drivers, including $750 for winning drivers on April 21 and $1,000 dollars for winning drivers on April 22.
General admission tickets will be $10, and pit passes will be $30. Family passes that cover two adults and three children can be purchased for 25 dollars. All ticket purchases occur at the gate.
Asked for his thoughts about the upcoming season, track promoter Kevin Faddis indicated that his goal is to host family-oriented events at the Cortez track.
“We’re making it a little more family-oriented this season,” Faddis said.
“We have cheap raffles and lots of giveaways. We get a lot of support from the community and we always get a really good turnout. I’m really looking forward to this season.”
