Telluride Airport will close for upgradeThe Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) is scheduled to close from April 3, to June 23 as crews work on several airport projects, including reconstruction of the aircraft apron and taxiway, reports the Telluride Daily Planet.
Other work will involve improving and expanding the general aviation and commercial terminals. New entrances will be enlarged to increase capacity.
Great Lakes Airlines resumed commercial air service to TEX last December, and averages 10 flights per week to Denver International Airport.
There are plans to add flights next winter.
The alliance recently announced the addition of daily summer flights to Phoenix out of Montrose Regional Airport, as well as an American Airlines’ Saturday service to Chicago, also during the summer, according to the Daily Planet.
MountainfilmMountainfilm in Telluride will take place May 26 to May 29 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at various locations in Telluride.
Started in 1979, Mountainfilm in Telluride is one of America’s longest-running film festivals.
In addition to screening leading independent documentary films from around the world, the festival includes a full-day symposium on a critical contemporary issue, art and photography exhibits, early morning coffee talks, a book signing party, an ice cream social, student programs and a closing picnic/awards ceremony.
Presentations and panels are scheduled throughout the Memorial Day weekend event with a wide diversity of special guests, ranging from artists to adventurers and academics to activists.

Learn the ukelele at the Ah Haa SchoolLearn the ukulele at the Ah Haa School for the Arts in Telluride on Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. between May 3 and June 7. Five weeks for $200.
This beginning adult class will provide basic skills for getting started playing the ukulele.
Students will learn how to tune their instruments, play basic chords, use a variety of basic strumming patterns, and play with other musicians.

Another Ah Haa moment: Try potteryLearn ceramic wheel and glazing at the Ah Haa School for the Arts in Telluride on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., May 23 to June 14. The class is $125.
Whether you’re interested in trying out the potter’s wheel or you simply need a refresher, this class enables beginning and experienced ceramicists some valuable time in the clay studio.
Class begins with two evenings of wheel instruction (required) followed by four open studio sessions (uninstructed, optional practice time). The course ends with one evening of glazing instruction, and one additional open studio session to finish up projects.

Canyon adventure course in OurayThere will be an 11-day professional canyoning course with Canyoning Colorado in Ouray beginning May 27.
