Durango ranked as the 12th wealthiest small town in America, according to a survey recently released by Bloomberg Business.
Bloomberg based the rankings on four metrics (Durango’s in parenthesis):
Median household income ($60,278)Percentage of households with at least $200,000 in income (3.9 percent)Median home value ($332,700)Percentage of homes worth $1 million or more (3.4 percent)The top three cities on the list were high-end ski towns: Summit Park, Utah; Edwards, Colorado; and Jackson, Wyoming-Idaho.
Durango and Edwards joined other Colorado towns on the list, including Breckenridge (#5), Steamboat Springs (#6) and Glenwood Springs (#8).
“Finding big money in Small Town U.S.A. is as simple as looking toward the mountains of the Old West,” Bloomberg’s report says. “America’s three wealthiest small communities are located in the western U.S. and tower at elevations exceeding a mile – with real estate valuations some would consider even loftier.”
