A winter storm warning is in effect for the Southwest Colorado mountains from noon Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Light snow showers will begin early Monday morning with showers becoming more widespread by Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service said. The heaviest snowfall is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, with 8 to 14 inches in the San Juan Mountains.
Towns affected by the snow warning include Telluride, Rico, Hesperus, Ouray, Silverton and Crested Butte.
Monday in Montezuma County, there’s a slight chance of snow early Monday morning, then a 60 percent chance of rain after 9 a.m. Less than an inch of snow is expected after 10 p.m. Monday’s high temperature will be around 50 degrees, and the overnight low will drop into the upper 20s.
Rain and snow are forecast for early Tuesday morning, followed by rain after noon. Tuesday’s high temperature will be in the lower 40s; the low, about 22.
Sunny skies and higher temperatures are forecast for Wednesday.
