Tomac gained three points on Dungey in the 450SC Supercross Series with his victory, his fifth in a row. He now trails Dungey by just four points, with three races to go.
Unlike his recent races, Dungey got off to a good start in Saturday night’s main event and grabbed the holeshot with Tomac in second, according to Fox Sports.
Kawasaki rider Tomac quickly passed Dungey during the first lap, and according to the AMA Supercross scoring sheet, led for all 25 laps.
At the 5-minute mark, Tomac held a three-second lead over Dungey, who fell back during a battle with Chad Reed as he and Tomac passed lapped riders.
Dungey withstood a challenge by KTM teammate Marvin Musquin but eventually pulled away for second.
Third-place Musquin, Jason Anderson and Josh Grant rounded out the top five.
Tomac’s next race will be on April 8 in Seattle. He has three rounds left in the 17-race series.
