The 2011 recipient of the Scott McComb Scholastic-Athletic Memorial Scholarship is 2011 Montezuma-Cortez High School graduate Brian Grubbs.
Grubbs was awarded $500, which will go toward his schooling at Saint Peters College in Jersey City, N.J., where Grubbs will play golf on an athletic and academic scholarship starting this fall.
The Scott McComb Memorial Scholarship has been awarded annually since 1986 after the late Scott McComb, who died in 1982 from a dirt bike accident. To receive the scholarship, students must be exceptional student-athlete graduates of M-CHS. A nine-panel committee reviews applicants based on college prep courses taken and grades earned in those courses, overall GPA, and athletic activity and achievement. Students must play at least two sports for all four years.
Grubbs played golf for the Panthers for four years and was a multiple All-Conference and All-State selection. Grubbs also participated in track and field, basketball and baseball for M-CHS.
Academically, Grubbs was an honor student all four years of high school. He was a member of the National Honor Society and National Society of High School Scholars. Brian is the son of Brett and Faedra Grubbs.
Scott McComb was the son of Jerry and Norma McComb.
