Edmonson family reunion

Edmonson family reunion

The descendants of George and Jessie Edmonson are having a family reunion potluck dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at the gazebo by the duck pond in Centennial Park in Cortez. The Edmonson family gathered for this picture in 1915. Pioneer George Edmonson, 19 years of age from South Dakota, and pioneer, Jessie Bowdish, 11 years old of Missouri, moved West with their respective families together, crossing the Great Divide through Wolf Creek Pass in 1889. In 1896, George, age 26, and Jessie, age 18, were married in Rico and moved to McElmo Canyon, where George had homesteaded a few miles north of the Utah state line in the year 1898. This was the family home until 1960. George is pictured in the center of this photo, seated, and Jessie is seen standing behind him, holding baby George. Also pictured, back row from left, are Clara Edmonson Foster and new husband, Wade Foster, May Lou and Kitty; front row from left are Julian, Juanita, Alonzo and Sally. George and Jessie later had two more boys — 10 children in all. For more information about the reunion, contact Cammy at 565-2536.
