Fairground policy on alcohol, marijuanaThe Montezuma County commission adjusted its fairgrounds policy to address marijuana and alcohol.
Any sale, use or marketing of alcohol, marijuana or any legal intoxicating or mind-altering substances must obtain prior approval from the commissioners at least 90 days before the event. The change was made after marijuana and alcohol retailers asked whether they could advertise at fairground events. The unincorporated county has a ban on marijuana retail sales and commercial grow sites of marijuana.
County discusses Montrose-Moab trailMontezuma County is working with motorized trail groups to establish a local link to the Rimrocker Trail, which connects Montrose and Moab.
County public lands coordinator James Dietrich reported that the Sage Hen area of the San Juan National Forest appears to be the best staging area for the trail spur. Possible routes being explored are from Sage Hen to the Lone Dome Road (504) or to a historical stock drive route that accesses the Dolores Canyon rim. From there the idea is to link motorized trails and roads across Dolores, San Miguel and Montrose counties to the Rimrocker Trail. The Timberline Trail Riders and Four Corners Trail Club are assisting with the trail proposal.
Meeting on mussels, lake access plannedThere will be a community meeting on local reservoir access and mussel inspections on Thursday, March 30, at 6 p.m. at the Conference Center at Destination Grill, in Cortez.
Federal, state and local agencies will present information for the boat inspection program at McPhee Reservoir for the 2017 season. New rules for other local lakes will also be presented. Local water managers are tightening up regulations to prevent a mussel contamination, which may damage local irrigation infrastructure.
Health department hosts open houseThe Montezuma County Public Health Department will hold an open house on Tuesday, April 4 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 106 W. North St. in Cortez.

Hearing set for Road BB intersectionThere will be a public hearing on April 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the Montezuma County Commission’s meeting room to discuss CDOT’s plan to make the County Road BB intersection at U.S. Highway 491 a right-in, right-out intersection.
The public is welcome to attend and contribute comments.
Commissioners plan quarterly meetingThe quarterly Town Hall meeting hosted by Montezuma County commissioners will be held on April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Arriola Community Center, 21176 County Road S.
Residents are invited to bring questions, comments, projects and ideas concerning county business before the commissioners. No decisions will be made at the meeting as these need to be made at the regular weekly commission meeting.
