Dr. William Rainer Jr., a Cortez surgeon, announced Tuesday that he would no longer offer his services at Southwest Memorial Hospital.
In a letter emailed to The Journal, Rainer office stated that he was limiting his practice to routine, scheduled surgical care at his office at 106 E. First St, the Southwest Colorado Surgery Center, and San Juan Clinic and Hospital in Monticello. He has worked in Cortez for 28 years, the letter stated.
Rainer stated that he had be on call at Southwest Memorial and wanted to “devote more time to important personal and family concerns.”
“I am and will continue to be very devoted to my patients,” the letter stated, adding that he would provide his patients’ records to the surgeon of their choice or continue as their surgeon.
Haley Leonard, the marketing and public relations director for Southwest Memorial, said the hospital employs two doctors who specialize in surgery, and several other local doctors have visiting privileges there.
