Its time for another celebration!
The Second Annual Mancos Melt will be held Thursday, March 10, through Saturday, March 12, in downtown Mancos. The theme this year is Summer of Love. Costume ideas can be found at the Sideshow in Dolores (739-4646) or Doodle Bug Tie Dye (Donna Reitz) at the Mancos Valley Distillery and Cellar Cuts.
On Thursday, there is going to be a wine tasting as the kick-off event at Arborena, 114 W. Grand Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests will enjoy hors doeuvres and wines from around the world. Everyone is encouraged to wear your love child and disco costumes. The cost is $30 per person or $55 per couple, and reservations are recommended by calling Rena Wilson at 533-1381 or e-mailing her at [email protected].
On Friday, March 11, photos from the Snow Show will be displayed at the visitor center, 101 Bauer St., from 4 to 6 p.m. Two entries per person are allowed, and cash prizes will be awarded. The cost is $3 per entry. For more information, contact Marilyn Kroeker at 533-7149.
At 8 p.m. Friday, the fashion show and costume contest will be at the Columbine at 8 p.m. Spectators can listen to music from the 1960s and 70s while singing and dancing the night away.
On Saturday, March 12, there is a breakfast at the Veterans of Foreign Wars from 8:30 to 10 a.m., featuring biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice. The cost is $5 per person.
Then, the Critter Parade is at 10 a.m. and starts in front of the Mancos school. All animals are welcome, plus decorated stick animals. The kids roping contest, balloon derby and other contests will be at 11 a.m. in front of Nathaniels Hats, 107 Grand Ave.
Then, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is a Salsa Sampling at the Raven House Gallery, 120 Grand Ave.
The bed races start at noon on Grand Avenue. The cost is $25 per five-man teams. Winners take all, and costumes are a must. You can sign up at Arborena or call Rena Wilson at 533-1381 or e-mail her at [email protected].
The golf tournament starts at 2 p.m., and the cost is $20 per two-person team. There are cash prizes, and costumes are encouraged. Participants are to meet at Arborena at 1:30 p.m. for last-minute sign-up and their score cards. If you need more information, call Rena Wilson.
The award ceremony for the golf tournament and costumes will be at the Mancos Valley Distillery at 5 p.m. Saturday. There will be a disc jockey and dancing.
