I was surprised to see a few greenies at the Forest Service hearings June 28. They claim they have been run off the forest roads by those gol-darned infernal noisy smelly dangerous machines, driven by a bunch of inconsiderate goofballs. Their solution is to gate and lock our forest to everyone except themselves, so they can commune with nature in the peace and solitude that they demand. I guess Mom never told them to share with others.

Here’s an idea: Don’t hike on the road. Sooner or later, you’re bound to run across one of those nasty gasoline-powered things The Forest Service could build you some trails, except that their goal is to close our public lands to everyone.

There is an upside, though. Their only job will be to drive around checking locked gates. Since they are mostly young college kids, they will be overqualified for this duty, so may be we can fire them and hire a local for gate duty.

How about turning the public lands building into a school? I hear we need more of them.

The final thing we need to do is change all the signs leading into our national forests. They now say, “Land of many uses.” The new signs will read “Land of no use.”

Let’s take this issue to court and end this stupidity.
