The reporting party stated that the dog was not on a leash or under the control of the driver, except possibly by verbal command. The individual driving the car has been seen walking her dog in this manner several times, and has received verbal warnings for doing so in the past. She had also been previously cited for her dog being at large. The individual will be served a summons for dog at large.
SUNDAY, JUNE 12
A deputy was dispatched to an area trailer park for a reported disturbance, and was informed by the reporting party that he had witnessed an adult male standing outside his residence, and had watched him slash the drivers side rear and passenger side front tires on his parked vehicle. The witness then saw the male motion to another vehicle driven by a female, which pulled up. The male got into the car, and they left the scene. The approximate value of the two slashed tires was estimated at $200. Dispatch provided a possible address for the suspect, based on a description of the vehicle he had left in. When Cortez police went to the address, they found the described vehicle. Cortez police contacted two females at the address, who admitted that the suspect had been in the vehicle, but had left on foot prior to the polices arrival. The male suspect returned and was placed into custody. The male suspect told police that he had been at the reporting partys residence with a baseball bat because he wanted to fight him. He said that he wanted to fight him because the reporting party had hit his ex-wife. He denied slashing the tires or that he did any other damage at the residence. Both females at the scene denied knowing anything about the slashed tires or what had happened; the second female also said that she was just there to pick the male suspect up. The male suspect was served a summons for criminal mischief and was left in the care and custody of Montezuma County jail staff. Photos of the damaged tires were placed into evidence.
MONDAY, JUNE 13
Cortez dispatch requested that a deputy contact a party in reference to the theft of a motor bike. The reporting party stated that the vehicle, a red Kawasaki motor bike, was parked in his driveway when he left that morning. When he returned the following morning, his bike was missing from his property. He looked around his property and contacted his neighbors, who denied that they had seen or heard anything. The bike is valued at $4,000. There are no known suspects at this time.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15
A deputy responded to a scene after being advised that a vehicle he had been looking for was located. He arrived to find another deputy detaining a male whom he recognized from a previous stop for running a stop sign and driving without a valid license. The suspect did not have any form of identification on him, and verbally identified himself under a name that turned out to be false. He also provided a false address, and two phone numbers that also proved to be false when called. When searched, the suspect denied knowing what an item was in his front pocket, and then said its dope. The deputy also retrieved from his pocket a small plastic bag that contained a small amount of methamphetamine, and 12 very small empty bags similar to those used to sell meth in small quantities. The suspect apologized for giving false information, saying that he did so because he was scared, and claimed that the items in his pocket were for his own use. He admitted using meth four hours earlier, and exhibited symptoms consistent with using a controlled substance. The interior of the suspects vehicle yielded various drug paraphernalia items, a laptop, external hard drive, and four cell phones. When checking serial numbers on these items, dispatch advised that the male suspect was flagged by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as an illegal immigrant. The suspect was transported to the sheriffs office, where he failed voluntary roadside maneuvers and tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine use in a urine test. The suspect was held with numerous charges, and was left in the care and custody of jail staff.
