Dalton Daves of the Cortez FFA Chapter was named Southwest District Star Farmer at the 83rd Colorado FFA Convention June 1-3.
The District Star Farmer award recognizes outstanding achievement in a production agriculture supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Each year, the Colorado FFA Association can select one member from each of the 12 FFA districts for this award.
Dalton maintained a diversified agricultural production supervised agricultural experience program over his four years in FFA. He raised cattle and farmed beans, wheat and hay. Leasing his own ground, managing his own operating loans, and seeking opportunities to grow his operation, Dalton built a business successful enough to not only qualify for his State FFA Degree, but to be named both chapter and district Star Farmer.
Daves has made plans to grow his operation even more and make a living farming in Pleasant View alongside his father and grandfather.
Dalton is an outstanding student. He took every bit of information he learned in the classroom and applied it in a real-life setting. Everything from welding and equipment maintenance to financial statements and loans, Dalton has proven time and time again that he will be successful in agriculture by making calculated decisions and working harder than any other high school senior I have ever seen. He is more than deserving of this recognition, said chapter FFA advisor Amanda Ramos.
Signature of Success was this years convention theme. More than 1,500 FFA members, advisors, supporters and guests attended the convention at Adams State College in Alamosa.
