Dalton Daves, Cody Likes, Quinton Lanier, Staton Jeter and Patrick Cottam-Rhine of the Cortez FFA Chapter earned their State FFA Degree at the 83rd State FFA Convention June 1-3. All five members received a certificate and a state degree charm in recognition of FFA accomplishments, sponsored by Jimmy and Nita Smith of Wagon Wheel Consulting of Rifle.
Students receiving their state degree were recognized at a dinner that was sponsored by Adams State College, School of Business of Alamosa.
The State FFA Degree is conferred to agricultural education students who submit an application, which must be approved by state staff. Among other requirements, students must have been members of the FFA for at least two years. Each member must also have invested $2,500 or worked 750 hours in their supervised agricultural experience program.
All five Cortez FFA members have had their names added to a permanent plaque in the ag classroom at Montezuma-Cortez High School. They join only 105 other Cortez FFA members who have received their state degree since 1956.
The state FFA degree is a symbol of true accomplishment in the FFA. Its a sign that this student not only worked hard in the classroom and was active in the FFA, but that they put in the time and work ethic at home in the agricultural industry and built a successful business or worked many, many hours for a local agricultural business. Not many students achieve this great honor because of the high level of requirements and the application process. Mr. McComb and I couldnt be more proud of these five boys who went the extra mile, said FFA advisor Amanda Ramos.
Signature of Success was this years convention theme. More than 1,500 FFA members, advisors, supporters and guests attended the convention at Adams State College in Alamosa.
