I moved to Cortez in March, 2013. I know Cortez isn’t very large in population, but I feel as if the town is living in the past and has no desire to bring itself to the future.
I’m a senior citizen and I like to go to the senior center for socializing and to eat. But sometimes I just can’t stay due to the stench of the sewer. The odor is so bad it has made me sick to my stomach and given me a headache. It is not healthy, and who can eat with that in the air, even though the doors are closed?
This has gone on for the three years I’ve been here. It isn’t the only place you smell it, as I live in Valley Sun Village and we have lots of problems here. Also at my church. What gives?
Also on the subject of the senior center, they have a large parking lot but only have two handicapped spaces. There are quite a few of us who can’t walk far and the spaces close to the building are taken by people who are able to walk. There are two dumpsters that are taking up valuable spaces and you can see them from inside while we eat.
Doesn’t anyone care about this town? Going into the driveway for KFC, Beale’s, etc, the drive has so many potholes it’s scary.
Where I came from the city had a sense of pride and they made it a place in which you would want to live. It brings people together to help clean the city. I wish it would happen here.
I hope this message will get to the people that can do something about these issues.
