DENVER — Denver International Airport has ranked fifth among U.S. airports for the number of guns seized by the Transportation Security Administration last year through the end of November.
The Denver Post reports that TSA says it confiscated 91 firearms at DIA checkpoints by the end of November and seized several more in December. That’s up from 90 guns in 2015 and 70 guns in 2014.
DIA earned one of the nation’s top spots for gun seizures as it served a record-setting 55 million passengers last year.
The head of TSA’s Colorado operations, Larry Nau, says firearms should be stored properly in checked luggage to avoid hefty fines.
Dallas/Fort Worth International ranked first among the county’s airports for TSA gun seizures in 2016 followed by airports in Atlanta, Houston and Phoenix.
