I’m grateful to live in a state that voted for equality and justice for all, and environmental protections, for health and public land, and that supports our booming tourist industry.
President-elect Trump and Republicans have vowed to undo all environmental regulations that protect health and safety, and to exploit public land for personal profit. Colorado has prospered with record-high tourism that our magnificent mountains and canyons attract.
As an educated, senior female who lived through segregation, and a time when women couldn’t own land and were forced into marriage to survive, I had dreams women would obtain equality with more Democrats in Congress and Hillary Clinton as president.
Misogynistic Trump and his conservative, male-dominated majority in the House and Senate and Supreme Court have vowed to overturn Roe vs Wade and other laws protecting women, minorities and the environment.
Conservative Christian churches with all-male clergy and leaders supported Mr. Trump despite hearing him mock the disabled and his other racist, misogynistic, homophobic and xenophobic words, and encouraged their members to do the same. What hypocrisy from those who profess to be moral.
Separation of church and state, equality for women and the environment (climate change) were the biggest losers in this election, and both parties are to blame. Republicans are now demanding that the majority who did not support them or Mr. Trump come together as one nation. After eight years of Republicans obstructing everything President Obama tried to do, they must know this cannot happen unless they pass laws that insure equality for women, all races, the LGBT community, the protection of public land that belongs to all Americans and work with other countries to stop destructive climate change. These are the values the majority voted for in this election.
Some of us have been excluded from equal rights since America was founded, and that must change!
