Recently my wife booked a roundtrip flight from the Cortez airport to Denver International Airport for $118.00. The lowest price flight out of the Durango airport is $391.00.
Can someone explain why the voters of La Plata County are being asked to pay for a $38 million dollar expansion to the airport so that we can pay over three times the price for a flight from Southwest Colorado to Denver?
The drive from Durango to the Cortez airport takes about 45 minutes; the same time as the drive from Denver to DIA. Perhaps our tax money can be used better to encourage Cortez to attract more regional airlines and just use their airport as the Southwest hub?
