Loveland and A-Basin began making snow overnight Monday and have been going strong since.
“The Loveland Ski Area Snowmaking Crew has been making snow for 36 hours straight!” the resort said on Wednesday. “Loveland hopes to open by mid-late October.”
At Arapahoe Basin, chief operating officer Alan Henceroth wrote on his blog that forecasters are predicting good snowmaking conditions for the rest of this week.
“If everything went perfectly, cold temps and plenty of water, we can get the mountain open in less than a week,” Henceroth wrote. “Typically, it does not go perfectly. We mix in some warm, non-snowmaking weather and it takes a little longer. We will see how it plays out the next week or two.”
Loveland hopes to open sometime in mid-to-late October. While A-Basin hasn’t announced when it plans to begin allowing skiers and snowboarders on its slopes, the ski area typically opens about the same time.
A-Basin closed on June 12 and Loveland ceased its winter operations on May 8.
Copper Mountain plans to open for the season on Nov. 11.
