A statewide online charter school held a grand opening celebration Tuesday in Durango – its newest location – and a “Getting Started” event for newly enrolled students and their families.
Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango opened this year for students in kindergarten through 10th grade, and will add 11th and 12th grades in subsequent years, according to a news release. The first Colorado Connections Academy opened in 2002 in Mapleton. The Durango school is authorized by Durango School District 9-R.
The online learning program allows students to work at their own pace on a flexible schedule from anywhere with an internet connection, according to a news release. The students work with licensed Colorado teachers and a parent or adult learning coach monitors progress at home. The school is taking enrollments for this school year.
The celebration will include remarks about the program, a demonstration of the online classroom and give enrolled students and interested students and their families a chance to meet faculty and staff.
The event starts at 4:30 p.m. at Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango headquarters, 150 Tech Center Drive, Suites C and D.
The Getting Started event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
