Powerful thunderstorms will settle over Southwest Colorado early this week, and they will bring a chance of light snow in the high country, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Joe Ramey, with the weather service’s Grand Junction office, said thunderstorms and precipitation will intensify Monday and Tuesday. The events are expected to bring hail and graupel (snow pellets).
Temperatures will remain in the mid-70s during the day, with overnight lows in the 50s.
In elevations at 11,000 feet and above, Ramey said the storms could bring light snowfall, yet not in amounts that are expected to accumulate.
Rain and storms will become more scattered Wednesday, and they will remain that way for the rest of the week.
However, Ramey said storms will pick up again this weekend.
“This is our wet season,” he said. “And we’re producing.”
