The Montezuma-Cortez Lady Panthers soccer program hosted a youth soccer camp this week at Parque de Vida.
Around 15 boys and girls took part in the morning clinic that included different skill work and drills, shooting games and soccer volleyball, concluding each day with a scrimmage.
M-CHS head coach Nate Ross, assistant Kenna Tarr and nine high school assistants led the camp, with Ross saying it was one of the ways he encourages high school players to give back to the community.
“The high school girls are out here working with the kids and getting to know them,” said Ross. “And I think that’s a big piece of having a high school program is giving back your experience to the younger players and getting them excited about the sport.”
“We’ve got girls that look up to these high school girls and I just want to have that connection between the youth programs and the high school team,” he continued. “We’re just having a blast out here. It’s fun and they’re learning from the girls.”
Funds raised from the camp will help the Lady Panthers purchase necessary equipment and assist with registration fees for their fall league.
