It is extraordinary how much is known in just 24 hours about the shooter in the tragic early Sunday morning Orlando nightclub massacre, and what his motivation and techniques might have been. The broad and deep digital arena has begun to be tapped by authorities, and his family members already have begun to speak up. Law enforcement – and the media – are pushing hard to learn all about what is being labeled as the largest mass shooting in the country’s history.
Before weighing in on all or parts of what transpired, and why, this editorial board will let a few days go by. There is certain to be more information, and more complete information, by the end of the week. Then some editorial comment is more likely to be on-topic.
In the meantime, our condolences to those who lost family members and friends, and our thanks to the law enforcement officers who brought the shooting to an end and to the medical personnel who aided the many wounded.
Mass shootings are occurring too frequently in this country.
