Hello to my friends! We need to take a time out, and right now!
We need some assistance from our unofficial Rico weatherman. Hello down there, Duane Holt (calling Gila Bend, Ariz.). Duane, we have received some moisture the past seven out of nine days and are curious about how we are doing. It hasnt been cold, actually, for the temperatures have been hovering around 38-40 degrees each morning and the flurries usually begin early morning.
Has Mother Nature forgotten that we are at mid-May and trying to work in our gardens up here? Just a nice, soft rain would be welcome!
Springtime is a lovely time of year. The new spring green as the trees sprout their leaves and the green grass puts a bounce and a hippity-hop in your step as you walk! Our first indication that the trees are leafing out is over across the river. North of Bemis there is a ridge that usually leafs out first in our area, and it is showing signs of promise!
The return of the bears usually prompts some residents up here to tell some interesting and scary stories regarding encounters of the human and the bruin. We heard a few up at the Joneses last weekend and also found out that there are two dens across the river on Myron Jones property. There is a good chance that some of you hunters out there already knew since hunters frequent that area in the fall.
The Rico Womens Club held their regular meeting last Friday at Erin Johnsons home. Plans and dates for the summer activities and ways-and-means projects were discussed. The club is looking forward to an exciting summer season.
Dennis Swank, our town maintenance man, is trying to grade streets and fill potholes before the annual mag chloride is applied to all the streets the first part of June.
We are anxious to see our summer friends returning. I am sure that they keep tabs on the weather, so come on, sunshine!
