Archaeologist Lister looks on career fondly

Florence Lister met her husband Robert at Chaco Canyon in the summer of 1940. She is an expert on the history of excavations at Chaco specifically at Pueblo Bonito and the author of Chaco’s Vanished Past which chronicles the Navajo presence in the canyon.

An interpretive tour at Cliff Palace always includes a uniformed National Park Service Ranger. The Listers conducted a CU field school at Mesa Verde between 1953-1956. Florence cooked for the student crew and sorted potsherds at night.

The Montezuma Land Conservancy recently secured two land conservation easements with Crescent Land and Cattle and Melvin Adams Livestock for the Crescent and Ivins ranches in the Groundhog-Glade area of Dolores County. Sunset at Chimney Rocks shows the space where every 18.6 years a lunar standstill drew pilgrims from the Ancestral Puebloan world across the San Juan Basin.
