When the demagogues attacked immigrants, I kept silence, after all I am not an immigrant although maybe my grandparents were. And when the demagogues attacked Muslims, I kept silence, for I am not a Muslim, although my god is the god of Abraham too.
And when the demagogues attacked Native Americans, I kept silence for I am not a native. Maybe I am really an immigrant after all. And when the demagogues attacked homosexuals, I kept silence, for I am not gay — although some in my family are.
And when the demagogues attacked my family, there was no one left to defend us, just silence.
