Mancos Elementary is calling anyone from a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and ideas to help plan an event that raises multicultural awareness.
The school is hosting a planning meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, and everyone is encouraged to bring ideas and suggestions.
Martha Endres, Mancos Schools educator for English language learners, says the idea for a multicultural event came after noticing there wasn’t really one in existence that simultaneously celebrated the diversity within Mancos and the surrounding area.
“It was when we did the Dias De Los Muertos parade, I felt like Native perspectives were left out, and I would like to see other cultures within those events too,” Endres explained.
Whether it’s a parade, all-day event, or a Saturday celebration is still up in the air, but Endres says it’s important that varying perspectives are represented.
“My main goal is to get families involved,” said Endres.
If you are interested, there will be a meeting on Monday, Nov. 9 from 4-5 p.m. in the Mancos High School room 420.
