The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office reported this week that a convicted sex offender has failed to register with local authorities.
Made available to the public on Monday, Deputy Brian Hill wrote in an Oct. 17 report that Herman Ricky Maestas, 42, had failed to register his new address as a convicted sex offender. Hill said his last contact with Maestas occurred at his mother’s residence at the Lakeside Trailer Park on Aug. 13.
“I gave him a verbal warning and he told me he will keep the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office informed of his address and information,” Hill wrote.
Early last month, Maestas’ mother told authorities that her son no longer lived at her home. According to Hill, the last attempt to contact Maestas occurred on Oct. 16.
According to a sheriff’s official, Maestas pleaded guilty to third degree sexual assault in 1996. The case originated in Montezuma County.
As of press deadlines, neither the sheriff’s office nor Cortez Police Department had a photo of Maestas on their respective sex offender websites.
