The Dolores Town Board heard from two candidates interested in being appointed to a vacant board position.
James Beard and Werner Kress gave brief presentations to the board Monday. The board will vote on their choice Nov. 9. Whoever is appointed will have to run for the seat in the April election.
Beard was born and raised in Dolores. He coaches middle school football, high school football, and middle school basketball.
As a board member he said “he’d like to organize more programs for kids in the community,” he said. “I love this town and feel it is my duty and my time to serve on the board. Plus I think it would be fun.”
Kress moved to Dolores 10 years ago from the Front Range. He was appointed to a vacant board position in 2008 and served for 1.5 years, but did not run for the seat in the next election.
“I’d like to help maintain the current status of Dolores, and I enjoy working for the town,” he said. “I’ve served before, and have that experience.”
Kress immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1957.
Mayor Val Truelsen asked each candidate what they can do to help improve the town.
Kress said he has experience in finance, and can help improve the economic structure of town.
“I’d work to save the town money,” he said.
Beard said his experience in the construction industry has taught him to follow through on projects and work with people.
“There is not a lot to improve in town,” he said. “I’m a proficient worker from start to finish, and understand utilities and infrastructure.”
