The Dolores Lady Bears track and field team took third-place at the 19-team Delta High School Invitational on Saturday in Delta.
The Lady Bears tallied 70 total points behind Hotchkiss (73) and winner Glenwood Springs (98).
Lady Bears sophomore Lexi Atkinson placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.94), third in the long jump (15-03.50) and fifth in the 200-meter (27.69). Sophomore Cydney McHenry finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.36) and ninth in the 100-meter (13.73). Sophomore Cassie Lard took fourth in the triple jump (31-02) and sixth in the 200-meter (27.79). Sophomore Mindy McCracken came in fourth in the 400-meter (1:07.86) and seventh in the long jump (14-08.50). Junior Rachel Beverlin finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:40.25) and seventh in the 1,600-meter (6:01.26). Freshman Brianna Schwartz took fifth in the 300-hurdles at 52.98. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Atkinson, Cortney Brunner, Lard and McCracken placed second in a time of 52.85.
For the boys, Dolores placed 16th as a team with 10 points. Host Delta won the event with 113 points. Senior Alex Bernholtz led the Bears with fourth-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (16.61) and the 300-hurdles (43.69). Sophomore Moki Youngquist came in 11th in the 110-hurdles posting a time of 20.48.
The Dove Creek Lady Bulldogs placed 15th with 14 points. Senior Kyli Banks led the way with a second-place finish in the discus throw (100-04) and an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 29-10.75. Freshman Cori Guynes came in sixth in the 400-meter recording a time of 1:09.92.
On the boys side, Dove Creek did not place as a team. Sophomore Cole Baughman placed 26th in the triple jump (32-09.50) and 34th in the long jump (14-11.50). Senior Tanner Wharton had a throw of 32-04.25 in the discus that was good for 28th and junior teammate Jared Galyean was right behind in 29th with a toss of 32-02.50.
Both Dolores at Dove Creek will be at the Cortez Invitational today at 4 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
