‘Alive Inside’ shows on Oct. 8
The documentary film “Alive Inside,” which was the 2014 Audience Choice at the Sundance Film Festival will be shown at Sunflower Theatre, 8 E. Main St., Cortez, on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. Doors open 5:45.
Admission is free thanks to sponsorship of The Valley Inn & Vista Grande Inn nursing homes as well as Vista Mesa Assisted Living.
A panel of elder-care professionals will lead a Q&A after the film.

Fort Collins’ Qbala to play at Blondie’s
Fort Collins-based hip-hop musician, Qbala, will play an EP release show at Blondie’s Trophy Room on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. with Kind Dub. Tickets are free, and this show is ages 18 and up.
This concert is in celebration of the release of Qbala’s new EP, “Battle Cries,” which is said to be a continuation of her last EP, “Dark Side of the Rain.” Qbala’s delivery and flow have been described many ways – fierce, determine and fresh. The emcee has a strong message, a relentless ambition, and an insatiable need to reach the masses. Qbala brings a unique mix of old school/new school hip hop/boombap to the shows that have become a mainstay in the Rocky Mountain Region hip-hop scene.

Hisatsinom presents ‘re-excavated’ artifacts
As part of the Four Corners Lecture Series, the Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society is pleased to present Chuck LaRue and Laurie Webster on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Sunflower Theatre, 8 E. Main St., Cortez, to discuss “Ancient Woodworking, Animal Use, and Hunting Practices in Southeastern Utah: New Insights from the Study of Early Perishable Collections.”
They will discuss some of the artifacts from Cedar Mesa that have been “re-excavated” from museum collections as a part of the Cedar Mesa Perishables Project.

‘Secretive Beauty’ exhibit planned
The Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave. Durango, will exhibit black-and-white photos by Roman Loranc in a show titled “Secretive Beauty” from Friday, Oct. 16 through Dec. 2, 2015.
Loranc’s images are a haunting result of his return to his native land of Poland, as well as all over the United States. Born in Eastern Europe in 1956, Loranc immigrated to California in the early 1980s. In the 1990s, he received acclaim for documenting the beauty of California’s Central Valley wetlands. Nearly 20 years after his arrival in California, Loranc began returning to Europe to explore its churches and sacred places.

‘Seasonal Change’ is Storytime theme
“Seasonal Change” is the October theme of the Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, located at 202 N. Park St., Cortez.
The preschool Storytime program is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Older children are welcome to join for a craft at 11:15 a.m.
The library offers a Storytime at the Cortez Farmers Market on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and the First Tuesday Market on Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting. They follow the same theme as the Thursday Storytime.
