After losing at home to Dolores on Tuesday, the Mancos Blue Jays hosted the Nucla Mustangs on Thursday.
Nucla entered the contest with a 7-1 record, and the Mustangs showed why they had only one loss on the season en route to a three game sweep of Mancos.
The Blue Jays weren’t overpowered by the visiting Mustangs, but Nucla kept the ball up, limited its mistakes and simply hit the ball in spots that Mancos players were unable to get to.
Mancos struggled in game one by trying to do too much and hitting the ball out of bounds, giving Nucla points, losing 13-25.
Game two was closer, but late Mancos errors allowed Nucla to pull away for a 25-17 win.
Taryn Gordanier and Nicole Hess landed spikes in game three to pull Mancos within five points, but Nucla junior Carlie Wytulka pushed the Mustangs on to a 25-15 win to take the match in three games.
“We’ve got to reduce our errors and score more,” said Mancos head coach Brittany Lang.
Mancos has another upcoming home game on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against Dove Creek at 4 p.m.
