Gold King Mine spill aside, is Durango the Best Destination for Outdoor Enthusiasts? It might be.
USA TODAY included the city in its 10 Best Readers' Choice Travel Awards Contest.

By Wednesday afternoon, Durango was in second place out of 20 featured cities and towns, tailing Santa Fe. Other contenders include such Western towns as Boulder; Missoula, Montana; Moab, Utah; and Lake Tahoe, California.
"Outdoor enthusiasts can hop a ride on the steam-powered 1882 Durango-Silverton Railroad through canyons in the San Juan National Forest, raft down the Animas River, hike the Colorado Trail or go four-wheeling to old mining towns," USA TODAY says of Durango.
"Come winter, enjoy all manner of snow sports, including dogsled rides, skiing, snowshoeing and ice skating."
