The Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls track and field teams placed sixth at the Phil Wertman Invitational in Grand Junction on Friday with 69.50 and 57 points, respectively.
The eight-team meet was hosted by Fruita Monument High School. Grand Junction won the boys team title with 107.50 points, and Glenwood Springs won the girls championship with 150 points.
Senior Max Demby won the long jump with a distance of 22-75 and placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.73. Senior James Sprague finished second and fourth place with personal record times of 2:04.12 and 4:51.08 in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. The 4 x 200-meter relay team took second in a time of 1:32.40.
Juniors Ashley Lingo and Laura Heaton led the Lady Panthers with top throws in the discus (114-40) and shot put (37-4.50). Senior Carly Wolf was second place in the 400-meter, finishing in 1:03.19, and sophomore Amanda Gallegos placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:33.32.
M-CHS will host the eight-team Cortez Invitational today beginning at 1 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
