Many seniors will tell you they don’t know how they’d get along without Medicare, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in July. Medicare has done so much and it can do even more and this is why the anniversary is the perfect time to add coverage for hearing aids and hearing exams. Seniors with untreated hearing loss don’t do as well physically or emotionally as seniors with normal hearing. But hearing aids are too expensive for millions of seniors who need them. Thankfully some in Congress are pressing forward with legislation so that Medicare can cover hearing loss treatments much like any other physical condition. Our Colorado congressional delegation needs to hear from us that now is the time to add hearing aids to Medicare’s list of covered services. It’s the right thing to do and now is the right time to get it done.
