Area Commissioners Against Continuing Wild River Studies
The meeting of the Western Slope and San Luis Valley County Commissioners held last weekend in Durango produced a resolution requesting the powers that be to withdraw the 12 rivers that are under study until the state and local governments can have a chance to see whether or not they should be included in the studies. They felt that this was a potentially threatening situation concerning the Dolores River Project.
Escalante Ruin Work Proceeds
Work is progressing well on the archaeological dig west of Dolores, at the site known as the Escalante Ruin. This site, which dates from the Pueblo II period, (950-1100 A.D.) is on Bureau of Land Management property, and is contracted by the BLM to the University of Colorado's Department of Anthropology for excavation and stabilization of several rooms and a kiva.
Mike Tobin Pitches at All Star Tournament
Mike Tobin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tobin of Dolores, represented the Dolores Senior League team last week in Grand Junction at the All Star Tournament. Mike pitched the entire game against Orchard Mesa Friday, striking out 5 and walking only 2 batters. The Cortez All Star team won the game 4-3.
Cat Not Rabid
What could have been a serious situation had a happy ending when it was discovered that the cat that bit the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Thompson was not rabid. A large scale search was held to locate the cat, including announcements made on KVFC. Rabies shots would have been necessary if the cat had not been found on July 15.

Traffic Report
A black cow was the cause of an accident on July 20 at 9:15 p.m 4 miles north of Stoner on Highway 145. Dr. David N. Roberts, 45, of Cortez was the driver of the 1974 Honda.
Four Corners Ranchmen's Camp Meeting This Weekend
This year's annual Four Corners Ranchmen's Camp meeting is going on this weekend at its usual location, just north of Summit Lake on Summit Ridge. The speaker for the meetings this year is a former resident of Cortez, Rev. Tom Myers.
School Board Accepts Tomberlin Resignation
The meeting was called to order by President Rogers at 8:11 p.m. Members present were Fischer, Gonzales, Rogers, Squires and Willbanks; Superintendent Hathaway, interested patrons and teachers.
