People from across the country have expressed their condolences for Native American trader Gregg Leighton, who died on July 16. He was 62.
A Cortez resident, Leighton was co-owner of Notah Dineh Trading Company. Established in 1961, the downtown Cortez trading company features the largest collection of Navajo rugs in the Four Corners area.
A memorial service is held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 24, at the Parque de Vida Pavilion.
Born Aug. 21, 1952, in Durango to Madelyn and Robert Leighton, he passed away at University Hospital in Albuquerque on July 16.
Survivors include his partner, Emily Holder of Cortez; a daughter, Candice Leighton of Denver; a son, Chuck Leighton of Cortez; his mother, Madelyn Daley of Cortez; and two brothers, Larry and Glenn, of Cortez.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Gregg Leighton to the Cortez Community Garden.
