Well, join the Dolores Elementary students for the "Doughnuts with Dudes" event Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 a.m. Fathers and father figures are encouraged to meet at the High School Library with their students for free doughnuts and drinks.
Those that attend will hear a presentation about the Watch Dogs program, used by schools across America to help students be positively impacted by involvement of fathers and father figures. The goal is to have fathers spend at least a day each year at the school to be a positive male role model.
Dads, granddads, uncles, step-dads and adult brothers are encouraged to attend.
Change at the elementary
From Principal Sherri Maxwell's desk, "Change. The very word often brings feeling of anxiety, but change can also bring new ideas and energy. In the fall, we will have a new principal at the helm. Mr. (Gary) Livick's positive energy and boundless enthusiasm for learning will be an asset to Dolores Elementary. Mr. Livick and I are working closely together to make sure the transition goes smoothly. He will be shadowing me once a week for the rest of the year to learn the ropes.
"Mrs. Sanford is retiring at the end of this year. She has championed physical education for many years. Her belief that children need to develop their whole selves has been embedded within our school. Mrs. Elder will be taking Mrs. Sanford's place as PE teacher. She, too, has a firm commitment to ensuring students are nurtured body and mind. I am very excited about this positive change.
In the fall we will be a three-track school, another positive change. To accomplish this goal, we will hire an additional fourth grade teacher! In addition to adding a fourth grade teacher, Mr. Livick and I need to hire new teachers to replace those who have changed positions or who are moving on to new opportunities. If you would like to serve on an interview committee, please let me know. I like to have a parent's perspective on these committees."
