Marva Jean Ellis has been named Valedictorian of the graduating class with Susan Diana Eppich and Margaret Christina Ingmanson as co-Salutatorians.
Others in the class are Karen Riffel, Thomas Rinaldi, John Jones, Herman Maestas,Debbie Ann Gallegos, Joseph Miera,Diane Halls, James Potts, Virginia Holston, Craig Hood, Danny Dalaba, Lori Williamson, Richard "Ricky" Martinez, John Schamp, Cherie Reneau, Forrest "Woody" Ott, Gail Alexander, Nicholas Rivera, Richard Randolph, Barbara McCabe Zeutzius, Richard Randolph, Jack Blackmore, Rudy Archuleta, Dorothy Goff and Eduardo Silva. Commencement exercises will be Tuesday, May 28 at 8 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the Memorial Day services this coming Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m. in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The services will be conducted by the VFW and will consist of firing squad, taps and a memorial service.
The Buddy Poppy has been the symbolic flower of Memorial Day since its first sale by Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1922.
Four Mancos students received bachelor's degrees from Fort Lewis College this spring. They are Lloyd McNeil, Larry Archibeque, Greg Conway and Anna McDonald. Suzanne Waite of Mesa Verde was named to the Dean's list for the winter term at Fort Lewis.
Visiting in Cimarron, New Mexico, over the weekend with the Paul Fraziers were Mrs. Betty Dillon, Pat and Scott, Dorothy Trevino and Mrs. Mattie Holston. (Mattie Semiramus Holston was the oldest of 12 children and traveled to Mancos in 1904 in a covered wagon. She started working for her uncle. Ira Freeman, as an employee of the Mancos Times and worked there for 48 years under five different editors. She was one of the organizers of the Mancos Days Association and served on the board of directors until her death in April 1979.)
Norman Deal is walking on crutches as the result of a broken ankle received while working at Mesa Verde Park. Norman served in the Pacific during WWII. For many years he was the trail foreman at Mesa Verde National Park. Among his many services in Mancos, he was a ten-year volunteer fireman. He died in December 1975 while on a family outing to the Mountains to find a Christmas tree.
Vida Mallett entertained the Wednesday afternoon bridge club in her home last week. (Vida's family moved to Mancos in 1901 when she was three years old. Her father built a small store at the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park that became known as Hallarville. After her father died, she worked at Mallett's Garage for 15 years. She passed away in April 1982.)

Carla Ann Ray and Gerald Koppenhafer were married on April 20. Koppenhafer is a 1973 graduate of Fort Lewis College.
A freeze this past Friday wiped out fruit blossoms and the gardens also suffered.
Mrs. Ellen Holston entered the Cortez hospital on Sunday for observation and returned home Tuesday. (Ellen worked for Mountain Bell for 17 years, for the Mancos Times-Tribune for 12 years and for ten years at the Colorado State Employment Office. She passed away in February 1996.)
